Do you know how to recharge when you feel burnt out? You know the feeling, the littlest thing makes you so angry. The car in front of you doesn’t turn right on red and you lean on the horn. You forget one thing at home and it feels like the world is ending {no, really, it probably is}. The giant pile of laundry is staring you down and the idea of starting on it feels harder than climbing Mount Everest. When any of these happen, it’s a sign you are burnout. It’s time to recharge.
There are two ways you can recharge.
One, you can pause. Pausing is all about step away from those things and people who are burning you out. Pausing is about giving yourself permission to rest.
Two, you need to light a spark. This is all about bringing in new, fresh energy and motivating yourself.
Sometimes you may need a little bit of both! The key is that this is all about you. Do something for yourself, something that makes you feel good. Remember, we’re talking self-love here! You spend enough time on everyone else. That’s part of what leads to the burnout.
I’m handing you a permission slip. It’s time to take a few minutes for yourself. Pick from the list below and find the best way for you to recharge when you feel burnt out.
How to recharge when you feel burnout by Pausing:
Pausing to recharge is the opportunity to stop everything that is going on around you. You step away from it all. You take some time to do something just for yourself. Pick one of these self-love activities if you are feeling overwhelmed or stressed out. One tip for success, set a timer for 15 minutes. For those 15 minutes all you can worry about or focus on is your activity. Then, when the timer goes off, then you can get back to the to-do list. Which self-love activity will you pick to pause and recharge?
- Read a book
- Light a candle
- Meditate {try the Calm app if you’ve never mediated before}
- Journal
- Draw/color
- Take a nap
- Watch a classic movie

How to recharge when you feel burnout by Lighting a Spark:
Lighting a spark to recharge is about filling yourself with new energy and finding fresh motivation. You want to light a spark when you’ve hit that end point when you just don’t want to do anything. If sitting on the couch and binge-watching Friends, again, sounds like the only thing you want to do, it’s time to light a spark. I like these self-love activities because they help me clear my head from all the chatter and fuzz. Afterwards I have a clear perspective and new energy to get going again.
- Go for a walk
- Do some yoga
- Listen to an uplifting podcast {try Glennon Doyle’s We Can Do Hard Things}
- Have a dance party in the living room
- Call a friend
- Bake your favorite treat
- Attend a workout class
