I am sharing 7 signs that you’re burnt out. You know why? Because most of the time we don’t even realize we are heading towards burnout until we’re already charred to a crisp.  Our ambition, which usually gets us to the good places, can also send us straight into burnout.

Once we are burnt out, everything becomes harder to do.  We lose our motivation. The to-do list just keeps building and nothing gets crossed off.

We don’t want that! So, let’s take a look at the 7 signs of burnout.  Once you are aware of them, it should be easier to recognize when you’re headed in that direction.  Then you can take the steps to head in a different direction and avoid burnout {more on that later!}

Signs of burnout:

  1. You can’t focus. You are easily distracted. Your mind is always wondering to something else.
  2. It feels like the walls are closing in around you.  Or maybe it feels more like with every step forward you take, you feel like you’re also taking two steps backwards. Burnout feels like the world is getting smaller, and the pressure is building.
  3. You have short to no patience.  The long lines at the grocery store, more traffic than normal, the kind checkout girl at Target slowly bagging your items, these all grate on your nerves.  You just wish everyone would move faster.
  4. The little things make you really upset. Then you end up snapping at people {and immediately cringe after}.
  5. If you find yourself crying more easily, you may be burnt out.  I love a good cry, and I think it’s healthy to cry.  But when little things send us into a full-on tear bath, it can be a sign that we are overwhelmed.
  6. You aren’t actually getting anything done or making any progress.  The to-do list just keeps growing.  There is always more to do and nothing is getting checked off.
  7. Self-care feels like the hardest thing.  When we are burnt out, taking care of ourselves is often one of the first things to go. We stop eating healthy.  It’s easier to grab take out then prep a lunch at home. We skip workouts because we can’t get out of bed in the morning or at the end of the day we’re just too exhausted.

What signs resonate with you?

You may not be feeling all of them right now.  You may be feeling a few of these strongly.  The important part is to pay attention to how you feel.  If any of these signs of burnout are creeping in, it’s time to pause.  It’s time to do a few things to avoid the burnout.  If you’re ready to move away from burnout, download my free audio training Five Tips for Breaking the Cycle of Burnout!
